It wasn’t quite daybreak yet in the silence of the forest. It began to rain early into it and I threw on my waterproof jacket and found a mound of pine needles to sit on using the trunk of a huge tree to sit against and enjoy a thermos of coffee I had brought along. The smell of coffee and pine were pleasantly intoxicating. As I sat there listening to the living, breathing silence all around me I was startled to look up and notice an eagle in repose with head bowed. We seemed to be in sync the eagle and I and I closed my eyes and just savored the moment in this beautiful damp world.

“Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life”…Hermann Hesse
